International Fungi & Fibre Symposium 2027
A week of fungi, natural dyes, fibre, field learning, craft and international exchange.
Introduction
The 21st International Fungi & Fibre Symposium will take place in Latvia in August 2027. It brings together mycologists, artists, artisans, yarn dyers, designers, researchers and nature enthusiasts. Set in Ratnieki, in the heart of Gauja National Park, the symposium is a place where science, craft, fungal dyes, papermaking, field walks and meaningful conversations come together.
It is a place to learn, exchange knowledge and experience, and create together.
The symposium is organised by volunteers, and participants are invited to contribute to the practical running of the event wherever possible.
What to expect
Talks, discussions and poster presentations
Short presentations, open discussions and poster presentations across mycology, craft and material culture.
Exhibition
A fungi-inspired exhibition featuring textiles, paper, pigments and process-based works created by symposium participants.
Shared meals and exchange
A space for informal learning, shared evenings and international exchange across disciplines.
Fungal colour and material practice
Explore fungal pigments, yarn dyeing, papermaking and material experiments.
Volunteer-led community
A participant-led gathering built on shared knowledge, practical support and care for the event.

- TuesdayForay and workshops. Visit to the Mēru Manor Museum in Smiltene Municipality, featuring an exhibition of Latvian art and crafts.
- WednesdayForay and workshops.
- ThursdayCultural excursion, workshops, potluck dyeing and the International Fungi and Fibre Federation meeting.
- FridayCultural excursion, workshops and the conference dinner.
- SaturdaySymposium closing and sample distribution. Departure to Riga.
